Now also available: Lecture DVD - Live in London at the "International Magic Convention 2008" This DVD contains a full recording of his lecture given to an audience of magicians at the MacMillan Magic Convention, London, 2008. He begins the lecture with Brute Force Opening - No time is wasted in this triple impact routine. A card changes into a previous selection, then back to the original card, meanwhile the selection is produced from what was an empty card box. This simple plot has a knockout climax and is a perfect opener for the card worker performing in restaurants & bars. The Tantalizer - Here's a classic of magic that's often overlooked, but not by Denis Behr. In this, the spectator has 51 chances to find their freely selected card. Despite the odds being heavily against him, Denis somehow finishes holding the chosen card. Very entertaining and incredibly clean, yet 100% certain every time. You'll use this trick right away! What's more, as you proceed through the lecture you'll find Denis has a much deeper reason for using it and that's when you'll begin to realise the depth of Denis Behr's thinking. A Gambling Demonstration - This is 'The Coup De Grace' and comes at a point where the deck has been thoroughly shuffled. Denis begins by magically producing the 4 aces. Then a spectator freely names a suit while another says where to deal the winning hand...Denis deals 4 hands, the selected one has a royal flush of the chosen suit. As if this isn't enough, Denis continues dealing, now the hand has the entire selected suit, all in numeric order. As a finale, the other hands are turned over to reveal each also contain a single suit in numeric order. Remember, the cards were previously shuffled and used throughout the performance of other tricks, this is truly amazing and very practical. Plop - Here's a short routine using any 4 of a kind. A number is freely chosen between 1 & 13, the pack is placed inside its case, yet all four of the chosen number magically penetrate the case and 'Plop' into the spectators hand. All of this plus expert tips on essential handling including Holding A Break, Double Lift, Peeked Selection Control, Top Change, The Pass, Bottom Palm and many other moves, plus some incredible material on the stacked-deck that'll have you re-thinking your stack work. This is a book that not only justifies its existence by means of innovative material and original thinking, but which represents the mind of a thoughtful and tasteful creator who pays attention to myriad tiny details that can make all the difference between mediocre magic and beautiful illusions. (...)
This is the way magic books should be written. Jamy Ian Swiss (Genii Magazine) Most card books present handlings or better ways of accomplishing things you already do. Handcrafted Card Magic gave me new things to do in already exceptional ways. This is a great book. Ricky Smith (M-U-M Magazine) His hands are so large that he can palm playing cards sideways without the fear of detection. John Lovick (MAGIC Magazine) There is some fine thought in this material. My favorite pieces are "A Trick for Allen Kennedy" (a surprise, since I'm not usually drawn to gambling effects) and "Oil and Water Finale". However, there is much else to admire. Stephen Minch The chapter, however, that I predict will stand-out as one of the most important and influential contributions to the study of stacked-deck magic is “Finding The Way Home”. Foreword by Pit Hartling Introduction Brute Force Opening An opener that does its job - knocking the spectators out with three rapid-fire effects in no time. Plop Control any four-of-a-kind without looking at the faces of the cards. The Culling Procedure Plop – The Effect A Trick for Allen Kennedy One of the cleanest Center Deal demonstrations. Magic Monthly A strong two-phase four-of-a-kind production with an emotional hook that is a real workhorse. Finding The Way Home The concepts and ideas in this section will change your stack-work and make it much more deceptive. Possible strategies for rearranging cards systematically “The Tantalizer” A Trick for Allen Kennedy Way into “The Tantalizer” Packet Trick Red-Black Division into Stack Liebenow’s Card Peeling A Gambling Demonstration An easy gambling routine that can be followed by anybody - interested in gambling or not. Oil & Water A real laymen pleaser. Try this routine and you'll want to keep it in your repertoire forever. Oil & Water Finale What Daryl's "Ultimate Ambition" is to the Ambitious Card plot, "Oil & Water Finale" is to the Oil and Water plot. Gray Matters An ultra-clean challenge location to fool anybody.
